CHAMPAIGN COUNTY, IL (Chambana Today) – The Champaign County Board and the Scott M. Bennett Dedication Committee invite the public to attend a building dedication celebration on Wednesday, July 16, in honor of the late State Senator Scott M. Bennett.

The event will take place from 4 to 5 p.m. at the Scott M. Bennett Administrative Center, located on the south side of the building off Main Street in Urbana. A public open house will be held just prior, from 3:30 to 4 p.m., offering tours and opportunities to learn more about the departments housed within the building.

Speakers will include Illinois State Treasurer Mike Frerichs, State Senator Paul Faraci, and former State Senator Dr. Stacy Bennett.

Senator Bennett, a native of Gibson City and resident of Champaign County, was widely respected for his bipartisan leadership and community-focused service. In the Illinois Senate, he championed key issues such as mental health access, early childhood education, clean water, sustainable agriculture, and justice reform. His legislative achievements include the ABLE savings program for individuals with disabilities, contributions to the SAFE-T Act, and laws allowing comfort dogs in courtrooms to support children.

In 2023, the Champaign County Plaza was renamed the Scott M. Bennett Administrative Center to honor his legacy. The building now houses essential county services, including the County Executive’s Office, Sheriff’s Office, Emergency Management Agency, and the Veteran’s Assistance Commission, among others.

Parking is available on Main, Broadway, and Water Streets, as well as at the City of Urbana parking garage on the southwest corner of Main and Broadway.
