And what’s amazing is that it’s actually pretty easy to create something that is truly one-of-a-kind.”

Smith explained the simple process. “Step one—you can stop into the store or set up a design appointment through our website. Many people bring in photos of things they like—or even pieces they’ve inherited and want to repurpose. We talk, get ideas, and go from there.”

From initial sketches or computer-aided designs (CAD), the team helps customers visualize the piece. “Once we finalize the design, we can quote the piece, then create a wax model using 3D printing or hand carving so you can see and hold a model of your piece before we make it,” she said. Once approved, Champaign Jewelers casts the piece, sets the stones—often the ones customers provide—and delivers a finished piece that’s both personal and beautiful.

The process takes about four-to-six weeks after the final design is approved. “Some of my favorite recent projects have been custom engagement rings made with heirloom diamonds,” Smith shared. “It’s really special when we get to incorporate family stones—whether they’re the centerpiece or a subtle side accent.”
