Champaign Juvenile arrested at Central High School after bringing handgun to school

According to the Champaign Police Department (CPD,) a 16-year-old student was arrested for bringing a handgun to Central High School this morning.

CHAMPAIGN, IL (Chambana Today) – According to the Champaign Police Department (CPD,) a 16-year-old student was arrested for bringing a handgun to Central High School this morning.

The gun was found as students were arriving for the day. A metal detector was triggered, and school security detained the student pending a search of his backpack. A gun was found inside the backpack and the student was formally placed under arrest. The Champaign Police Department has opened an investigation into the incident.

Because of the student’s age and the ongoing nature of the investigation, Champaign Police could not comment further. All individuals are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
