CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (Chambana Today) — With help from Vermilion County Animal Shelter, the PetSmart in Champaign will be holding an adoption event as part of a nationwide pet adoption event.
The event will run on Saturday, December 6 from 1 to 5 p.m. at the Champaign PetSmart, located at 2017 N Prospect Avenue.
Empty the Shelters, a program run by Bissell Pet Foundation, is the nation’s largest funded adoption event, and helps homeless pets find families by making adoption affordable for prospective pet owners.
“Adoption saves two lives – the adopted pet and the one who takes their place in the shelter,” the foundation says. Bissell makes adoption affordable by supporting participating organizations with reimbursement for each pet adopted.
Adopters who participate can take home a spayed or neutered, fully vaccinated, and microchipped pet who’s ready to be loved for $70 or less. As a result of the event, shelters win because the event brings awareness and foot traffic, helping pets get adopted. Most importantly, pets win by finding a loving home.
The event, which was already slated to come to Champaign’s PetSmart, is adding cats to the lineup, as announced by the Vermilion County Animal Shelter.
Those looking to adopt on Saturday are asked to bring a carrier for cats or a leash for dogs. PetSmart also has items ready for purchase.
