CHAMPAIGN, IL (Chambana Today) – The Champaign Police Department were called to a residence late Thursday night after receiving reports of shots fired. Officers were dispatched to the 1400 block of Holly Hill Dr. at 10:56 p.m. and quickly located evidence of gunfire, including shell casings and property damage. Shortly after, a 22-year-old female victim from Champaign arrived at an area hospital with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to the torso. Additional officers were sent to the hospital to interview the victim. She remains hospitalized in stable condition.

The initial investigation indicates that the victim was sitting in a vehicle on Holly Hill Dr. when an altercation in the area escalated to gunfire from a different vehicle in the roadway. The offending vehicle then fled the area. At this time, it is not known if the victim’s vehicle was the target of the gunfire. Property damage was also reported to two homes and a vehicle in the area.

Officers continue to canvass the surrounding area for witnesses and video footage that may be of investigative assistance. Any resident or business in the nearby area with outdoor cameras is encouraged to notify the police department. No arrests have been made at this time and the investigation is ongoing.
