CHAMPAIGN, IL (Chambana Today) – The Champaign Police Department is investigating a shooting that left a 24-year-old man with potentially life-threatening injuries on March 25. Officers were dispatched to the intersection of Neil Street and JT Coffman Drive at 3:23 p.m. following reports of a shooting.
Upon arrival, police found the man suffering from gunshot wounds. He was quickly treated by officers on the scene before being transported to a local hospital, where he remains in critical condition.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the victim was inside an apartment when a confrontation occurred with two unidentified men. During the argument, a gun was fired, and the victim was struck. The man fled the apartment, seeking assistance, and was located outside the building by responding officers. The suspects fled the scene after the incident.
Champaign Police are asking the public to assist with the investigation. Officers are seeking witnesses and video footage that could help in solving the case. Residents or businesses in the area with exterior surveillance systems are encouraged to reach out to the police.
