CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (Chambana Today) — The City of Champaign is inviting residents and neighbors of all ages to come together for the Welcoming Week Family Festival, a family-friendly event celebrating immigrants in the community.

The festival will take place on Sunday, September 21 from 12 to 3 p.m. at the Downtown Champaign Plaza on the corner of Neil Street and Main Street.

The event will feature an afternoon full of cultural performances, family activities, food trucks, and interactive engagement for all ages. More than just a celebration, it’s meant to be a space where community connections and cross-cultural appreciation are front and center. The event is free and open to the public, and the city encourages individuals and families from all cultures, backgrounds, and identities to participate, connect, and celebrate together as one community.

With more than 25,000 foreign-born residents living in Champaign County, Welcoming Week is “a powerful reminder of the importance of building a community where everyone feels seen, supported, and valued.”

This year’s Welcoming Week will feature more than 20 inclusive events, from showcases to workshops, aimed at fostering understanding and strengthening community bonds.
