CHAMPAIGN-URBANA, IL (Chambana Today) – The Champaign-Urbana community is marking Juneteenth 2025 with a vibrant lineup of events honoring freedom, resilience, and Black history. From concerts and crafts to storytelling and historical dedications, this year’s celebrations promise opportunities for all ages to reflect and engage.

Festivities begin Thursday, June 12, at Urbana Fire Station #1 with a City Hall program at noon. On Saturday, June 14, Douglass Park will host a community celebration from 12–3 PM, including vendors, games, and a mural dedication commemorating Frederick Douglass.

On June 18, two powerful events take place: the Urbana Park District’s family-friendly gathering at Prairie Park (5:30–8 PM), and a headline concert by hip-hop artist Talib Kweli at Krannert Center (6:30–7:30 PM). Kids can also participate in a Juneteenth flag-making activity earlier that day at the Douglass Branch Library.

Douglass Park will close out the celebrations with a free concert by Afro D & Global Soundwaves on June 19 from 5–7 PM, bringing funk, hip-hop, and unity to the community.

In addition to these events, residents are encouraged to explore the Champaign County African American Heritage Trail and support Black-owned businesses.
