URBANA, IL (Chambana Today) – The Champaign-Urbana Jewish Federation (CUJF) is welcoming Zach Mayer, a celebrated musician known for channeling his rich family heritage of four generations of singers. Mayer will perform a Community Concert on Saturday, December 14 at the Spurlock Museum, 600 S. Gregory St. in Urbana. The doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the concert begins at 7 p.m.
As a fourth-generation cantor – an official who sings liturgical music and leads prayer in a synagogue – Mayer has gained worldwide recognition, including over 35 million YouTube views for his captivating “Subway Sax Battle.” His music celebrates Jewish traditions while weaving in diverse influences, inspiring audiences of all backgrounds.
Mayer has collaborated with legendary artists such as John Zorn, Frank London, Michael Alpert, Joey Weisenberg, and Bobby McFerrin. His folk sextet, Night Tree, has toured globally and released two critically acclaimed albums produced by Seamus Egan of SOLAS.
