CHAMPAIGN, IL (Chambana Today) – Champaign’s new Downtown Plaza is officially open and is host to weekly events that the whole community can enjoy.

On Tuesdays, the Rhythm & Roots Farmers Market runs from 3 to 6 p.m. The event hosts an array of local vendors, live music on the Downtown Plaza stage, and a new addition — The Kids Corner. Games, bubbles, hair braiding and more can be found at The Kids Corner, offering outdoor fun and memory-making for families with children.

Farmers Market attendees can support local and small businesses while taking advantage of Kids Eat Free Tuesdays, where children under the age of 12 can redeem coupons won at The Kids Corner at participating restaurants in Downtown Champaign. This year’s Farmers Marker is also a Downtown Festival District, allowing adults to enjoy drinks from nearby businesses while shopping or listening to live music

Sound Bites will run on Thursdays from 11:30 a.m. to 1:oo p.m., bringing live music to the Downtown Plaza with a lunchtime concert series featuring singer, songwriters, jazz trios, and solo bands. Families are encouraged to grab lunch from a nearby downtown restaurant and enjoy the live music in the heart of the city.

Friday Night Live presented by 40 North runs on Friday evenings from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Live music performances will take place at four different stage locations across Downtown Champaign, including Market & Taylor, Neil & Park, the Downtown Plaza, and Fremont & Main. For a full lineup of performers, visit 40 North’s website.

On Saturdays, head downtown for a late-night event designed to create a fun and safe space for the community. The Beat on Market Street runs from 8 p.m. to 12 a.m., and will have live music from a different band every week, followed by an energetic DJ on the Market Street Stage.
