CHAMPAIGN, IL (Chambana Today) – The City of Champaign has announced Nancy L. Rabel as its new Deputy City Manager, effective December 16. Rabel brings over 25 years of municipal administration and legal expertise to the role, including her current tenure with the City of Champaign since 2021. Her experience spans human resources, labor and employment law, municipal law, and public administration.
Deputy City Manager Joan Walls praised Rabel’s qualifications, stating, “Nancy’s extensive public administration and wide-ranging legal experience made her the clear choice to serve as Champaign’s next Deputy City Manager. She has consistently demonstrated her leadership skills and passion for public service. I’m pleased to have Nancy join the City’s executive team.”
Rabel expressed her enthusiasm, saying, “It’s an honor to serve as the City of Champaign’s next Deputy City Manager. Champaign has a long history of strong, caring leaders, and I’m eager to contribute to that legacy. I look forward to collaborating with City leadership and staff to make a meaningful impact on the lives of Champaign’s residents.”
Rabel’s tenure with the City includes roles as Assistant Director of Human Resources and Assistant City Attorney. Before joining Champaign, she served as City Administrator and General Counsel for Canton, Illinois, worked with private law firms, and acted as an Administrative Law Judge for the Illinois Labor Relations Board.
She holds a Juris Doctor from the University of Illinois Chicago School of Law (formerly The John Marshall Law School), a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from Knox College, and an Associate of Arts from Spoon River College.
