URBANA, IL (Chambana Today) – When 8-year-old Kenny McFarland was diagnosed with clear cell sarcoma at just 3 years old, his life—and the life of his mother, Ramona England—was forever changed. Since then, the family has faced a challenging and often overwhelming battle with this rare and aggressive cancer. But this Sunday, December 15th, the Urbana community is coming together to support them in a special fundraiser at Perkins Restaurant & Bakery.

Kenny has been undergoing treatment at St. Jude’s in Peoria, with his mother making the difficult journey back and forth. Unfortunately, the family’s car is nearing the end of its life, and Ramona, who is Kenny’s sole caregiver, is only able to work part-time at her serving job at Perkins to make ends meet.

Now, in a show of community solidarity, a fundraiser will take place at Perkins on University Avenue in Urbana, where local residents are invited to show their support for Kenny and Ramona. The event begins at 10 a.m. and will feature baked goods for sale, with all proceeds going directly to the McFarland family. Cash donations and tips will also be accepted, and posters with Ramona’s CashApp information will be displayed inside the restaurant for anyone wishing to contribute online.

Ramona has been working at Perkins for years, and the fundraiser is a way to give back to a family that has supported the restaurant for so long.

While the McFarland family is in a difficult position, they are not without hope. Ramona said she is especially grateful for the ongoing support of her coworkers at Perkins, as well as the kindness shown by local businesses, friends, and strangers alike. By attending the event and donating, residents can make a real difference in the lives of Kenny and Ramona McFarland during this challenging time.

The event will be held at Perkins on University Avenue in Urbana on Sunday, December 15th, starting at 10 a.m. For those unable to attend, donations can be made directly through CashApp at $roman2247.
