CHAMPAIGN, IL (Chambana Today) – To celebrate Juneteenth, we invited you to nominate a Black-owned businesses in Champaign-Urbana. In partnership with our sister radio station, The Vibe 97.9 we will recognize five outstanding local businesses and their valuable contributions to our community this week. Today, we shine the spotlight on Bella’s Home Health and Caregiving Services in Champaign.
Inception and Inspiration
The idea for Bella’s Home Health and Caregiving Services was born during the COVID-19 pandemic. Fineez Muhammad, moved by the sight of families unable to be with their loved ones in assisted living facilities, reached out to her aunt, Sandra Kinney. Kinney, leveraging her extensive experience in home health and nurse management, recognized the urgent need for a different kind of caregiving service. The name “Bella” honors their family members, Maybell and Abella, who inspired their journey into caregiving.
Founders:
- Sandra Kinney, RN BSN, Director of Quality Assurance: With over 30 years of experience in the healthcare industry, Kinney has progressed from a Certified Nursing Assistant to key roles such as director of nursing and director of operations at top hospice organizations. Her unwavering commitment has always been to ensure the highest quality of care.
- Fineez Muhammad, Administrator: With 15 years of experience in long-term care and skilled nursing facilities. Muhammad brings a robust set of skills to the organization. Her background as a business office manager has equipped her with expertise in office administration, accounts payable and receivable, and customer service. Known for her strong work ethic, organizational skills, and compassionate nature, Muhammad excels in staff management and professional relationship building.
The business was funded initially by the founders’ savings, Bella’s Home Health and Caregiving Services and within a couple of years secured contracts for Medicaid and Community Care, which facilitated their expansion to a full office and the addition of more care team members.
Community Connection is important to both founders, who are residents of the CU area, fostering a deep connection and commitment to their community. Unlike larger corporations, Bella’s emphasizes genuine, compassionate care without bureaucratic constraints.
Because they have personally cared for loved ones, they have a true understanding of the financial challenges families face, Bella’s strives to provide relatable and compassionate services.
