URBANA, Ill. (Chambana Today) — A powerful community celebration is set to take place this Friday, October 18, as Courage Connection hosts “Courage on the Block”, an event honoring the resilience of domestic violence survivors.

The free event runs from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. at The Yard on Broadway, located at 401 N Broadway in Urbana. Open to all ages, the gathering will feature music, games, food, a raffle, and more.

Entertainment will include performances by DJ Blackstar and DJ Mixxn, with special appearances from Urbana Mayor Deshawn Williams and Urbana Police Department Chief Larry Boone.

“Courage on the Block” is held in recognition of Domestic Violence Awareness Month and serves as both a celebration and a call to action, reminding community members that support and safety are available. “You are not alone. If you or someone you love is in need of help, please call our 24/7 domestic violence hotline at (217) 384-4390,” Courage Connection stated.

The event is presented in partnership with the City of Urbana, The Yard on Broadway, Baldarotta’s Porketta & Sicilian Sausage, and DTB Makers Market.
