CHAMPAIGN, IL (Chambana Today) – Curtis Orchard & Pumpkin Patch will have the pumpkins ready for picking by the third week in September.

The orchard is a traditional hotspot for guests who want to pick their own pumpkins. It is just a leisurely 10-minute walk from the store. Red wagons are on hand to haul both kids and pumpkins.

Here’s just a sampling of what is planted each year:

  • Giant pumpkins
  • Mini pumpkins
  • Classic orange pumpkins for pie-making and Jack O’lantern carving
  • Several blue varieties
  • Several white varieties – in all sorts of sizes
  • A number of unique pumpkins – warty, “peanut-shelled”, and everything in between

Pick out the one you want, then, bring it back to the store. They charge 59¢ per pound, with a minimum of $3.50 per pumpkin.

Pick your own or buy one from the country store already hand-picked.

Don’t feel like going to the pumpkin patch? No problem!

  • They have lots of pumpkins on the hill next to the Chief Kesis statue.
  • Just outside the back doors is a large assortment of squash, mini-pumpkins, and decorative gourds.
