DANVILLE, IL (Chambana Today) – A tragic traffic accident in Danville claimed the life of a 51-year-old man on the afternoon of May 12, when he was struck by a semi-trailer in the 700 block of East Main Street.

According to the Danville Police Department, officers responded to the scene around 1:42 p.m. after receiving reports of a crash involving a pedestrian and a semi-trailer. When they arrived, they found the victim with severe injuries. Medical personnel attempted to render aid, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Preliminary findings indicate that the victim was riding a pedal cycle on the sidewalk when he lost control and fell into the roadway, landing beneath the rear of the passing semi-trailer. The driver of the semi immediately stopped and called for police and emergency services.

The Illinois State Police Accident Reconstruction Team assisted in the investigation. Authorities report that no citations were issued, and no other injuries occurred during the incident. The identity of the victim is being withheld pending notification by the Vermilion County Coroner’s Office.
