DANVILLE, Ill. (Chambana Today) – The Danville Fire Department (DFD) is set to conduct several fireground training sessions in mid-December to sharpen the skills and readiness of local firefighters and their counterparts from nearby departments. These training events, which will take place in residential areas, are part of a crucial effort to prepare firefighters for real-life emergencies and improve their safety during operations.
Roof Operations Training – December 16-17
On December 16 and 17, the DFD, in partnership with neighboring fire departments, will hold roof operations training in the 500 blocks of Chandler and Grant Streets. This advanced course will be taught by Soda City Training, a renowned fire service training organization based in South Carolina. The focus will be on fireground roof operations, including the use of chainsaws and performing various tasks on rooftops in a controlled environment.
While residents in the area can expect to see fire trucks, firefighters working on rooftops, and hear chainsaw noises during the day, officials assure there is no cause for alarm. The training is specifically designed to help first responders improve their skills in a realistic and safe manner.
Live-Fire Training – December 18
On December 18, the Danville Fire Department will conduct live-fire training at 1008 N. Jackson Street for new recruits attending the Champaign Fire Academy. This live-fire exercise, required by the State of Illinois, offers recruits a hands-on opportunity to prepare for real-life emergencies.
During the training, residents may see smoke rising from the site, but only clean wood pallets will be used—no hazardous materials like plastics or carpet. Asbestos abatement has already been completed, and all activity will comply with regulations set by the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency.
Temporary Brown Water Expected
Residents living near the training sites may notice a temporary discoloration in their water, which can occur when sediment is stirred up in water lines during the live-fire exercises. This issue should clear up within 2 to 8 hours without the need for further action.
