DANVILLE, IL (Chambana Today) – A 29-year-old Danville man was taken into custody Thursday morning, July 3, after crashing a stolen SUV during a police pursuit that began shortly after the vehicle was reported stolen.

At approximately 7:16 a.m., Danville Police received a report of a black Toyota Sequoia stolen from a residence in the 1600 block of E. Voorhees Street. Just over 20 minutes later, around 7:38 a.m., a Vermilion County Sheriff’s Deputy spotted the stolen vehicle in the 200 block of E. Fairchild Street and attempted a traffic stop.

The driver, later identified as Keon A. Underwood, refused to stop, prompting a police pursuit northbound on Bowman Avenue. During the chase, Underwood ran a red light at Bowman and Voorhees, crashing into a Chevrolet Trailblazer that was traveling eastbound through the intersection.

Following the crash, Underwood fled on foot but was quickly apprehended by the pursuing deputy and a Danville Police officer. He sustained non-life-threatening injuries in the crash and was transported to a local hospital for evaluation.

The driver of the Trailblazer was also evaluated at the scene and released with non-life-threatening injuries. No other injuries were reported.

Underwood faces preliminary charges of possession of a stolen vehicle, aggravated fleeing and eluding, and multiple traffic violations. He will be booked at the Vermilion County Jail upon release from the hospital.

Authorities remind the public that a complaint is merely an accusation, and all defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
