CHAMPAIGN, IL (Chambana Today) — The Danville Rescue will celebrate its first year of serving the local unhoused community with a special event on April 11, 2026, featuring Danville native and Trent Sherfield as the honored speaker.

The celebration will be held at the New Life Church of Faith Banquet Center, with doors opening at 4 p.m. and the program beginning at 4:30 p.m. Organizers say the evening will highlight a year of impact while raising support to continue their mission of providing hope, help, and healing.

Sherfield, a Danville High School graduate and Vanderbilt University alum, has remained deeply connected to his hometown despite his success in the NFL. Known not only for his athletic achievements, including participation in Super Bowl LX, Sherfield has built a reputation for giving back to the community that helped shape him.

His generosity has already made a significant impact on Danville Rescue. According to organizers, Sherfield’s organization donated $15,000 at a critical moment, allowing the nonprofit to secure necessary insurance and establish a foundation to officially open its doors on March 31, 2025.

“His heart for Danville goes far beyond our organization,” event organizers shared. “He has blessed our high school, he has several giveaways for our youth, he has his yearly youth football camp bringing in other NFL players as well.”

In addition to his charitable contributions, Sherfield hosts annual youth football camps that bring current NFL players and former Danville standouts back to the city, creating opportunities for mentorship and inspiration for young athletes.

The anniversary celebration will include dinner, a silent auction, and special memorabilia provided by Sherfield. Among the featured items is a large canvas portrait of the athlete, painted and donated by local professional artist John Jansky, which Sherfield will sign during the event.

Tickets are $25 and will be available at the door. Evening attire is encouraged.
