DANVILLE, Ill. (Chambana Today) — The Danville Sweet Adelines have been singing as a harmonizing women’s barbershop quartet for over 50 years. This year, it was decided to present their next show entitled, “When I Grow Up, I Wanna Be….” on Saturday October 4 at 3 p.m. in the Bremer Center at Danville Area Community College.

It’s school career day on stage where these ladies will become 3rd grade students, participating in career day where each member portrays the career she wants to be when she grows up. The show theme has many connections to the members of the chorus, as a group of professional women who come from various careers such as health care, real estate, insurance, horticulture, social services, etc. There are several retired educators within the group.

The school related theme and the charitable nature of the chorus has motivated the group to encourage donations of supplies along with student admissions, in support of local education. The Sweet Adelines will collect school supplies at the door in lieu of admission for students of District 118. In addition, each paid adult is welcome to bring one K-12 student to the show at no charge, not including the dinner. Dinner will also be served along with the show for $40 or $15 for the show only. Dinner is served by the Dogg Pound BBQ following the show.

The Sweet Adelines also have an annual fall show and a Christmas Luncheon/Charity Auction coming up. They also perform at area events including Arts in the Park, Danville First Fridays, and at nursing homes as well as singing the National Anthem at local sporting events.
