FISHER, IL (Chambana Today) – A sudden dust storm Friday afternoon contributed to a five-vehicle chain-reaction crash just west of Fisher, leaving four people hospitalized and prompting a response from Illinois State Police Troop 7.
The accident occurred at approximately 4:50 p.m. along U.S. Route 136, west of County Road 300 E in Champaign County, during a period of low visibility caused by blowing dust.
According to preliminary reports, a Ford F-350 pickup collided with the rear of a Toyota RAV4, setting off a domino effect. The RAV4 was pushed forward into a Kia Sol, which in turn struck the rear of a tow truck. During the crash, the door of a Lincoln Navigator was also struck by one of the involved vehicles.
The driver of the Toyota RAV4 and three passengers in the vehicle were transported to a local hospital with injuries. No additional updates on their condition were available as of press time.
This was one of several weather-related traffic incidents reported Friday, as strong winds and dust reduced visibility across portions of Central Illinois. Illinois State Police also reported multiple crashes on I-74 during the storm.
