URBANA, IL (Chambana Today) – Elizabeth “Libby” Ann (Oyler) Himelick, 96, of Urbana, IL, widow of Eugene “Gene” B. Himelick, passed away peacefully Saturday, June 8, 2024, under hospice care at the home of her eldest son, David, in St Charles, IL.

Memorial services will be held at a later date.  Entombment will be in Mt. Hope Mausoleum, Champaign, IL.  Renner-Wikoff Chapel and Crematory is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Himelick was born on November 4, 1927, in Indianapolis, IN, the daughter of the late Joseph B. and Flossie M. Oyler, and grew up in Tipton, IN.  In 1951, she married Eugene Himelick of Summitville, IN.  They moved to Urbana, IL, in 1952, where they raised their family.

Surviving are three sons, David E. (fiancée Romi Herron) Himelick of St. Charles, IL; Kirk J. (Marc Citrin) Himelick of Wake Forest, NC; Douglas N. (Angela) Himelick of North Webster, IN; three grandchildren, Christina (Brett) Johnston, Joshua Himelick, and Elizabeth (fiancé Sam Cohen) Himelick; sister-in-law Bernice Oyler; and niece Lynne Oyler Gooch.  She was preceded in death by her brother, Charles J. Oyler.

Mrs. Himelick graduated from Tipton (Indiana) High School and earned a BS degree from Ball State University in 1949.  She taught second and third grade elementary school from 1949-53, but primarily enjoyed being an attentive mother and homemaker.  She was a very active member of the First United Methodist Church, Urbana; a Boy Scouts of America mom to her three Troop 10 Eagle Scout sons; a Cub Scout den mother, and supporter of her Boy Scout Scout Master husband.  She enjoyed sewing, hand work, and quilting, but especially enjoyed flower gardening and yard work in the summer.

Mrs. Himelick lived at Clark-Lindsey Village in Urbana for over 16 years where she and her late husband were very active and participated in many community activities.  She enjoyed her gardening there and was the Garden Plot Committee Chairman of the Clark-Lindsey Village Residents Council for 8 years. She moved to St. Charles, IL, in April 2022, to live with her eldest son and daughter-in-law, then in May 2023, lived at Franciscan Court, a supportive living community in West Chicago, IL.  She spent her final days under hospice care at her eldest son’s home.
