FARMER CITY, IL (Chambana Today) — A Farmer City business with a unique mascot will celebrate its fifth anniversary later this month in a celebration filled with surprises for old and future customers.

The Mischievous Monkeys, at 226 South Main Street, is home to Marcus the chimpanzee, who greets visitors from his seat on a bench outside the shop.

“In retail today, it isn’t just about selling things; it is about the shopping area of your town and to build trust with your customers and other business owners,” owner Robert Allen said. “We feel as though with our fifth anniversary, we can meet old and new faces in both parts of our growing business community.”

An open house will be held from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., with refreshments provided throughout the day. The Mischievous Monkeys offers vintage, antique and home décor items, boutique clothing and jewelry and gourmet food.  A floral design shop was added to the shop in 2023.

The building on South Main Street has seen major renovations since The Mischievous Monkeys opened its doors in 2021. Today, the boutique shop attracts visitors from neighboring cities and states looking for a unique shopping experience.
