AYERS TOWNSHIP, IL (Chambana Today) – A fatal two-vehicle traffic crash occurred Thursday, February 6 at approximately 4:56 p.m. in Champaign County. Sheriff’s deputies responded to the collision at the intersection of County Road 2700E and County Road 100N.
According to the investigation, a 2022 pickup truck (Unit 1), driven by an 85-year-old male from rural Broadlands, was traveling southbound on County Road 2700E. At the same time, a 2003 pickup truck (Unit 2), driven by an 83-year-old male from Sidell, was eastbound on County Road 100N. Unit 1 disregarded a stop sign and collided with Unit 2.
The driver of Unit 2 was ejected from the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of Unit 1, along with a passenger in the same vehicle, were transported to a local hospital with injuries sustained in the crash. Authorities have not released the names of those involved at this time.
This incident marks the second fatal crash under investigation by the Champaign County Sheriff’s Office within the past week, where one of the individuals involved was ejected from the vehicle. Sheriff Dustin Heuerman is reminding motorists of the importance of wearing seatbelts and adhering to traffic laws.
