CHAMPAIGN, IL (Chambana Today) – Champaign Police are investigating a fatal pedestrian crash that occurred on the 500 block of N. Market Street at 6:03 p.m. on March 4. Upon arrival, officers found a 58-year-old man suffering from severe injuries. Despite receiving immediate medical assistance from the Champaign Fire Department, the man succumbed to his injuries shortly after being transported to the hospital.

The vehicle involved in the crash was initially not on the scene, prompting authorities to shut down the 500 block of N. Market Street to investigate the incident as a hit-and-run. After an interview, Lorenzo-Raymundo was cited for driving with a suspended license, driving without insurance, and leaving the scene of an accident. He was arrested for leaving the scene of a fatal crash, and his vehicle was impounded.

The 500 block of N. Market Street remained closed until approximately midnight for the investigation, and traffic has since resumed as normal. Although an arrest has been made, the investigation remains ongoing.
