CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (Chambana Today) — The City of Champaign’s Equity & Engagement Department is working with the Illinois Department of Human Rights to hold the 2025 Illinois Against Hate Conference.
The conference, which is the first of its kind in the state of Illinois, is open to the public, and looks to bring together individuals, organizations, and state and local officials dedicated to protecting human rights, advancing inclusive policies and practices.
The keynote addresses will be delivered by Dr. Cynthia Miller-Idriss, a leading scholar and author on extremism and radicalization, and founder of the Polarization & Extremism Research & Innovation Lab (PERIL) at American University.
The community is invited to join for “amplifying conversations and partnerships to defend human dignity and build resilient communities to combat hate in all its forms.”
Sessions and workshops include topics ranging from understanding discrimination protections in Illinois to emerging, evidence-based strategies for preventing hate and extremism.
The event will be held on Tuesday, October 21 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the I Hotel and Conference Center at 1900 South First Street in Champaign. Attendees are asked to use the south entrance of the conference center.
