CHAMPAIGN, IL (Chambana Today) – Illinois Athletics Hall of Fame running back Robert Holcombe will serve as Illinois football’ honorary captain against Purdue on Saturday.
Holcombe was on the team from 1994-97 and was the Illini’s all-time leading rusher with 4,105 yards and a school-record 16 100-yard rushing games. He went onto a seven-year NFL career that included a Super Bowl title in 1999 with the St. Louis Rams.
Holcombe is back at the U of I for the Illinois Athletics Hall of Fame induction ceremonies on Friday at 7 p.m. at the State Farm Center. The event is free and open to the public.
