CHAMPAIGN, IL (Chambana Today) – Gas prices in Champaign have seen a slight decrease in recent days, with the average price per gallon dropping to $2.97 as of Monday morning, according to a survey by GasBuddy. The drop marks a 3.7-cent reduction from the previous week.

The latest data from GasBuddy, which tracks fuel prices at nearly 80 stations across Champaign, reveals that gas prices are 5.2 cents lower than they were a month ago. However, prices are still 3.5 cents higher compared to the same time last year.

At the time of the survey, the cheapest gas in Champaign could be found at $2.79 per gallon, while the most expensive station in the city was charging $3.35. Statewide, prices in Illinois range from $2.68 at the lowest to $4.59 at the highest.

Nationally, gas prices have followed a similar downward trend, with the average price per gallon sitting at $2.98. This represents a decrease of nearly 5 cents from the previous month and is 11.8 cents cheaper than this time last year. The national average is also marking a reversal after several weeks of rising prices, with 2024 set to become the second consecutive year of declining gas prices.
