GIBSON CITY, IL (Chambana Today) – Gibson City Melvin Sibley (GCMS) Middle School will be closed today due to a sewage backup that has made all toilets inoperable and caused an unpleasant odor throughout the building, Principal Darnell announced.
To allow for repairs, sanitation, and ventilation, GCMS will transition to an E-learning day. However, Principal Darnell clarified that the E-learning activities would be optional and aimed at enrichment or support, acknowledging that some students may not have the necessary materials or devices for full participation.
All after-school activities at the middle school are canceled, but office staff and administration will be available from 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM for students who need to retrieve materials or resources.
Both GCMS Elementary and High School will continue with their regular schedules and bus routes. Families of elementary and high school students unable to attend due to the middle school closure are encouraged to notify their respective offices.
