SPRINGFIELD, IL (Chambana Today) – Governor JB Pritzker has declared March 31st as Transgender Day of Visibility in Illinois, marking the state’s commitment to protecting the rights of transgender individuals. This proclamation highlights the Illinois Human Rights Act, which safeguards transgender people from discrimination in areas such as employment, housing, healthcare, and education.
“In Illinois, we don’t just talk about inclusion—we make it law,” Governor Pritzker stated. “Our state is a place where everyone can live authentically and with dignity, free from fear of prejudice or violence.”
Lt. Governor Juliana Stratton added, “Today, and always, we affirm that transgender individuals belong, their rights matter, and their lives are worthy of celebration and protection.”
To further support these protections, the Illinois Department of Human Rights (IDHR) has issued non-regulatory guidance clarifying rights and responsibilities for transgender, nonbinary, and gender nonconforming individuals, emphasizing protections against discrimination in various contexts.
