URBANA, IL (Chambana Today) – The Urbana Park District invites the community to celebrate the next phase of the Kickapoo Rail Trail (KRT) with a groundbreaking ceremony on Wednesday, May 7 from 6 to 7 p.m. The ceremony will be held at Weaver Park, located at 2205 Main Street in Urbana.
This event marks the beginning of construction on a new trailhead pavilion, a key component of the KRT extension that will eventually connect Urbana to Kickapoo State Park in Danville. The 24.5-mile multi-use trail is designed for pedestrians and cyclists, passing through diverse ecosystems including woodlands, prairies, and wetlands. Once completed, the trail aims to provide a safe, off-street transportation and recreation option, bringing neighboring communities closer together.
Attendees of the ceremony can enjoy light refreshments and learn more about the project’s progress. Outdoor parking is available at the ILEAS Training Center, 1701 E. Main Street. For more information, please contact the Urbana Park District at (217) 344-9583.
