HOOPESTON, IL (Chambana Today) — A 65-year-old Hoopeston man was arrested Friday night after police said he was involved in two separate crashes while driving under the influence.
According to the Hoopeston Police Department, the first crash happened near Fifth and Main streets. Officers said Joseph Goodrum drove his pickup truck into another unoccupied pickup and then left the scene.
Police later responded to a second crash near a grain elevator on Thompson Avenue, where Goodrum allegedly struck a parked, unoccupied train. After he refused medical treatment, officers arrested him for DUI and failing to obey railroad signals. He was also charged with leaving the scene of the earlier crash.
Police said Goodrum was the only person involved in the incidents and was not injured. He was processed and issued a notice to appear in court. Court records do not yet list a first appearance date.
