EUGENE, OR (Chambana Today) – Illinois’ transfer forward Ben Humrichous led the No. 22 Illinois Illini to a 109-77 victory over the No. 9 Oregon Ducks in Big Ten action.
Illinois entered the game shooting just 33.4% from three-point range. Kylan Boswell added 15 points, shooting 4-for-5 from three-point range, and five other Illini players hit a three-pointer, contributing to a total of 16 from beyond the arc. The Illini went on an 11-2 run to start the second half, pushing their lead to 56-40 and never looked back.
The win set an NCAA record for the largest margin of victory by a road team against a top-10 opponent. The Illini’s 32-point margin of victory shattered the previous record, leaving the Ducks in shock.
The Illini had struggled early in the game, falling behind 7-2, but a 12-0 run sparked by bench players Jake Davis (12 points) and Dra Gibbs-Lawhorn (11 points) helped Illinois take control. In the second half, Jakucionis shot 6-for-8 from the field in the second half, scoring all of his 16 points. Jakucionis also contributed six rebounds, five assists, and just two turnovers in the win.
Illinois plays at Washington Sunday afternoon.
