DANVILLE, Ill. (Chambana Today) — The City of Danville is expressing its continued optimism and determination in the face of the recent decision by the Hyster-Yale Group to relocate its operations out of Illinois. The company, which has operated locally for several years, has chosen to move its facilities to Indiana, resulting in the closure of its Danville operations by the end of 2026.
Over the past two years, city officials have worked extensively with the Hyster-Yale Group, exploring opportunities for the expansion and relocation of their operations within Vermilion County. During this period, the city identified several viable sites for the company and committed to assembling a robust incentive package designed to make Danville an attractive location for growth.
The final proposal presented by the City of Danville included a variety of incentives: a sanitary sewer extension valued at over $1 million, an expansion of the Enterprise Zone, rezoning of a selected parcel, and a $1.5 million cash incentive for the relocation. In addition, significant offers were made by the site developer, private local foundations, the Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity, and the Office of the Governor.
“We worked hard to present a competitive package, but we were also fully aware that Hyster-Yale was considering other locations. While we are disappointed with the outcome, we take great pride in the collaborative effort made by everyone involved,” said a spokesperson for the City of Danville. “This process strengthened relationships and reaffirmed our community’s dedication to creating opportunities for growth.”
Despite the setback, the city remains focused on long-term growth and economic development. With the support of the City Council, Danville will continue with its planned infrastructure projects, including the sanitary sewer extension and Enterprise Zone expansion. These projects, along with additional funding now available, will help support the expansion of existing local businesses and provide a stronger foundation for attracting new companies to the area.
“We are committed to ensuring that Danville remains a competitive location for investment, and we are focused on future development,” the spokesperson added. “While this situation is difficult, our community has shown resilience and determination, and we are confident that new opportunities will emerge.”
The city is also mindful of the impact this move will have on the employees and their families. Efforts are underway to provide support to those affected by the closure, including assistance with job placement and resources to help transition into new opportunities. “We are dedicated to minimizing the impact on those who will be affected by this move, and we are committed to supporting them through this transition,” the statement noted.
