URBANA, IL (Chambana Today) – Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers arrested two individuals at the Champaign County Courthouse this morning, after arriving with local FBI officers. The authorities were reportedly searching for Fernando Lorenzo-Raymundo, who was scheduled for a preliminary hearing on charges related to a fatal accident.
Lorenzo-Raymundo, 36, of Champaign, faces a charge of failure to report an accident that cause death, while 45-year-old Carlos Gomez of Urbana is charged with aggravated driving under the influence while his license was revoked. Both men were in the courthouse for their respective hearings.
State’s Attorney Julia Rietz stated that her office is not informed about ICE actions in advance, as required by state law.
