CHAMPAIGN, IL (Chambana Today) – The 2025 Christie Clinic Illinois Marathon brings thousands of runners and spectators to the streets of Champaign-Urbana this weekend—but it also brought a wave of road closures impacting traffic across the area.
With events including a 5K, 10K, half marathon, full marathon, youth races, and wheelchair divisions, streets across both cities were closed in phases throughout the weekend. Major thoroughfares, residential routes, and campus roads were temporarily blocked off to ensure safety for runners, volunteers, and spectators.
Key road closures included portions of Kirby Avenue, Neil Street, Green Street, Windsor Road, and Race Street, among others. Closures varied by event and time of day, with many roads reopening in stages after runners passed through.
To help navigate the disruptions, the marathon provided an updated interactive map and full road closure schedule on their official website. For the most accurate and current information, residents were urged to visit: www.illinoismarathon.com/road-closures
Race director Jan Seeley emphasized the importance of safety and patience during the event: “We know the closures can be an inconvenience, but they’re essential to creating a secure environment for thousands of runners and volunteers. We appreciate the community’s support and flexibility.”
