SPRINGFIELD, IL (Chambana Today) – With the 2025 Illinois State Fair set to kick off August 7, organizers are introducing new security measures to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for all fairgoers. In partnership with the Illinois State Police, the Fair is implementing stricter policies, especially around the Grandstand area.
Among the prohibited items on the fairgrounds this year are firearms—including concealed carry—various types of weapons, illegal substances, drones, laser pointers, fireworks, and flammable materials. These items will be confiscated if found.
For Grandstand events, enhanced safety protocols include metal detectors and bag checks at all entrances. Guests will not be allowed to bring backpacks, duffle bags, or large purses exceeding 14 by 8 inches.
Ticketing has also been updated, with officials urging mobile ticket holders to download tickets in advance via the Ticketmaster app to avoid delays due to inconsistent Wi-Fi at the gates.
Beverage rules remain consistent with last year: all drinks purchased will be opened or poured into plastic cups at the point of sale. Outside drink containers—including refillable bottles, cans, Stanley cups, or souvenir mugs—will not be permitted in the Grandstand.
Additionally, professional cameras and tripods are banned from Grandstand events.
Officials encourage visitors to review the complete list of prohibited items before attending. The Fair runs from August 7 through August 17 in Springfield
