BLOOMINGTON, IL (Chambana Today) – Earlier today, the Illinois State Police (ISP) released video footage of an officer-involved shooting that occurred on February 25 in Bloomington. The incident, which led to the death of a 15-year-old juvenile, was investigated by the ISP Division of Criminal Investigation Zone 5, following a request from the Bloomington Police Department.
Around 5 p.m. on February 25, Bloomington Police responded to a call regarding a person with a gun in the area of the 800 block of Arcadia Dr. Upon locating and making contact with the individual, the juvenile pointed a firearm at the officers, prompting them to fire their weapons. The officers provided immediate medical aid, but the juvenile was pronounced deceased at the scene by the McLean County Coroner’s Office. A Sig Sauer P365 Air Pistol was recovered from the scene.
In an effort to maintain transparency and integrity, ISP has made the video of the event available to the public. However, due to the juvenile’s status, ISP is withholding the individual’s name and image. The video was released after authorization from the McLean County State’s Attorney and after the juvenile’s family had the opportunity to review the footage.
