CHAMPAIGN, IL (Chambana Today) – The Illinois State Police (ISP) Troop 7, under Acting Captain Heather Apperson, has released the results of its Occupant Restraint Enforcement Patrols (OREP) conducted in Macon and Vermilion Counties on November 25. The initiative focused on ensuring compliance with safety belt and child restraint laws, aiming to save lives through increased enforcement.

Patrol Results

  • Safety Belt Citations: 19
  • Child Restraint Citations: 2
  • Total Citations Issued: 32

The OREP program provided additional patrol coverage, allowing officers to emphasize the importance of occupant protection laws.

“Most motorists understand that safety belts save lives, yet some continue to put themselves and their families at risk by neglecting to use them,” said Acting Captain Apperson. “These patrols serve as a critical reminder that lives can be saved if people simply ‘buckle up.’”

This enforcement effort was funded by the Illinois Department of Transportation and reinforces the lifesaving message of compliance with safety belt and child restraint laws. For more information on seatbelt and child restraint safety, visit the Illinois Department of Transportation website.
