URBANA (Chambana Today) – The Native American House is celebrating Indigenous Peoples’ Day, showcasing Native American literature and media, spirituality and food.

Activities included a presentation on spirituality, land, belonging and Indigenous dispossession of land. There was a session on how Indigenous women use media to inform others about violence towards Native women.

There was a “community feed,” will took place from 12-1 p.m. According to the Native American House, Indigenous Peoples feel that feeding the community leads to greater connections. The meal was held at the Core Gallery. Panel discussions focused on Indigenous undergraduate and graduate students and their experiences with belonging and identity.

There was a pop-up library at the Native American House from 3-4:30 p.m., and F&T Desserts, a local Native American-owned business served a free treat for the event. Their food truck was parked in front of the Native American House on Nevada St. University Housing will serve Indigenous food at Illinois Street Residence Halls from 4:30-8 p.m.
