SPRINGFIELD, IL (Chambana Today) – The Illinois State Police (ISP) continues its aggressive push to combat vehicle theft, carjackings, and related violence, recovering 225 stolen or hijacked vehicles between April and June 2025 alone.
Fueled by nearly $11.3 million in state grants over two years—including a $637,500 award this July—ISP has conducted 48 missions targeting car crime and related violence. These efforts led to the arrests of six individuals for stolen vehicle offenses and the recovery of 15 firearms.
“Our priority is making communities safer by disrupting criminal networks behind vehicle theft and related violence,” an ISP spokesperson said.
Recent cases highlight the program’s reach. On June 1, troopers pursued a stolen Jeep on I-94 in Chicago, ultimately detaining five individuals and seizing a firearm. In separate spring incidents, ISP recovered stolen vehicles in both Chicago and Cahokia, taking several suspects into custody.
ISP used K9 units and air operations in 27 and 48 missions, respectively, and processed over 1,200 cases through forensic labs. Officials say continued funding will help sustain this high-impact work throughout Illinois.
