CHAMPAIGN, IL (Chambana Today) – Illinois outside linebacker Gabe Jacas was named the Walter Camp Football Bowl Subdivision National Defensive Player of the Week. Jacas was named Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week yesterday after 13 tackles, 2.5 sacks, two quarterback hurries, and a forced fumble in Illinois’ win over Michigan on Saturday.

Jacas is the second Illinois player to win Walter Camp FBS National Defensive Player of the Week honor this year, after Xavier Scott won it after the Kansas game.

Jacas’ 2.5 sacks are the most by a player in a Big Ten Conference game this season. The Illinois football team is now ranked #20 in this week’s AP Top 25 poll ahead of their game in Eugene, Oregon on Saturday against the nation’s #1 ranked team.
