CHAMPAIGN, IL (Chambana Today) – Karen S. Santarelli, 74, of Champaign passed away at 6:47pm on Friday, January 3, 2025, at OSF St. Joseph Medical Center, Bloomington, IL, surrounded by her family.

A visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 8th at Owens Funeral Home, 101 N. Elm St., Champaign from 5:00 to 7:00 pm. Recitation of the Rosary will begin at 4:30. A Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday at 10 AM at Holy Cross Catholic Church, 403 W. Clark, Champaign, with Msgr Brian Brownsey officiating. Burial will immediately follow at St. Mary Cemetery, Champaign.

Karen was born on December 17, 1950, in Greenville, KY, the daughter of William S. and Mary F. Mayes. She married Denny Santarelli on December 19, 1970, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Springfield, IL. He survives.
She is also survived by her two sons Christopher (Rachel) of Mahomet, Anthony of Urbana, and grandchildren Evelyn, Jack, and Luc and sister Connie Santarelli of Champaign.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Karen retired after owning C&A Inspirations, Catholic Books and Gifts in Champaign for 24 years.

She loved her family and especially cherished the time spent with her grandchildren. She liked cooking and trying out new recipes, and most of all, she enjoyed following her St. Louis Cardinals. Her favorite Cardinal was Yadier Molina.
