CHAMPAIGN, IL (Chambana Today) — The Illinois Department of Transportation announced that westbound lanes of Interstate 74 at Interstate 57 in Champaign, Illinois will be reduced to one lane Monday, March 9.
The lane reduction will be in place from 5 a.m. to 6 p.m. to allow crews to pour concrete for the westbound bridge deck as part of ongoing improvements in the area.
Motorists should expect delays and allow extra travel time while passing through the construction zone. Drivers are encouraged to consider alternate routes when possible and to use caution by following posted signs, reducing speeds and staying alert for workers and equipment.
The work is part of the state’s Rebuild Illinois capital program, a $33.2 billion investment in transportation infrastructure. Over the next six years, the program plans to improve more than 7,100 lane miles of highway and 8.4 million square feet of bridge deck statewide.
State officials say nearly $20.8 billion in improvements have already been completed during the first six years of the program, including upgrades to more than 21,000 lane miles of highway, 815 bridges and more than 1,100 safety projects across Illinois.
