DECATUR, IL (Chambana Today) – Young leaders from DeWitt, Macon, and Piatt counties are making headlines this awards season as they earn statewide recognition for their exceptional achievements in 4-H programs across Illinois.

Davis Howell of DeWitt County received a prestigious State 4-H Animal Sciences award, recognizing his excellence and mastery in animal science projects. Along with the honor, Howell will receive a $1,000 scholarship from the Illinois 4-H Foundation.

Macon County’s Elizabeth Cornett earned the State 4-H Leadership award for her commitment to personal growth and leadership development. Cornett has held multiple 4-H offices, served on committees, led programs, and given public presentations — all of which contributed to her being awarded a $1,000 scholarship.

Abby Pilcher of Piatt County was honored with the Illinois 4-H Experience Emerald Clover Award in Project Learning. This distinction is given to youth who participate in eight or more significant activities at the county, state, or national level in areas like community service, leadership, and project learning.

These local awardees were among 45 4-H members from across the state recognized by the Illinois 4-H Foundation this year. Scholarships were awarded in multiple categories, including Animal Sciences, Civil Engagement & Global Living, Creative & Performing Arts, Food Systems, Healthy Living & Nutrition, Leadership, Natural Resources & Environmental Science, Personal Growth, and STEM & Robotics.

An awards ceremony and Signing Day celebration took place in April, honoring both scholarship recipients and graduating 4-H seniors.
