MAHOMET, IL (Chambana Today) – On Sunday night, the Champaign County Sheriff was dispatched to a motor vehicle crash involving a pedestrian in the area of County Road 125 E just South of Route 150 in Mahomet Township.
Police detailed that the incident, which took place at approximately 8:53, involved a 49-year-old female who was walking her dog when she was struck by a 2006 Ford Fusion being driven by a female from Mansfield. The pedestrian was transported to a local hospital with critical injuries, and a press release from the Champaign County Sheriff revealed that she is expected to survive.
This is an ongoing investigation by the Sheriff’s Office investigators and accident reconstruction deputies.
Champaign County Sheriff Dustin Heuerman provided the following guidance:
- If walking along a dark roadway, pedestrians should wear highly visible clothing and avoid walking in the roadway if at all possible.
- Drivers should always operate a motor vehicle responsibly – without distractions from inside the vehicle. Especially on dark roadways, obstructions may appear without warning, requiring immediate action by the
driver.
