CHAMPAIGN, IL (Chambana Today) – Ahead of the Fourth of July weekend, foot traffic in downtown Champaign may look a little different.

On Thursday, the city announced that the Main Street Viaduct will be temporarily closed for pedestrian access beginning on the same day.

The viaduct is often used as a connector between the two portions of Downtown Champaign, with Black Dog Smoke & Ale House to the west and the Daily Bread Soup Kitchen to the east.

Pedestrians needing to cross between First Street and Chestnut Street/Main Street should utilize the sidewalk along University Avenue.

No timeline has been provided for when pedestrian access will be restored.
