CHAMPAIGN, IL (Chambana Today) – 29-year-old Julio Bol, accused of killing two women in a fatal Urbana hit-and-run crash, appeared in court Friday after a grand jury reviewed his case. Bol, dressed in an orange jumpsuit, appeared via Zoom as the grand jury indicted him on all counts, signaling they found probable cause for the charges.

Bol is accused of rear-ending a vehicle at an Urbana intersection in January, leading to the deaths of 20-year-old Katie Abraham and 21-year-old Chloe Polzin. The crash also involved three other individuals, who were present in the courtroom on Friday and vowed to attend all of Bol’s future court appearances.

After the crash, Bol fled the scene and was apprehended three days later on a bus heading toward Mexico. A citizen of Guatemala, he initially provided authorities with an alias and false Mexican documents before they discovered his true identity.

Champaign County State’s Attorney Julia Rietz emphasized that Bol is facing multiple felony charges, including reckless homicide with a motor vehicle. He was denied pretrial release last month and has remained in custody since. If convicted, Bol faces over 20 years in prison.
