Danville, Ill. (Chambana Today) — A routine warning about a broken taillight escalated into a road rage incident early Sunday morning, ultimately leading to the arrest of a Covington man on multiple charges, including gun and drug offenses.

At approximately 2:44 a.m. on September 21, 2025, Danville police responded to a report of a road rage situation near the intersection of Main Street and Gilbert Street. Officers quickly located the two vehicles involved and conducted traffic stops.

According to police, the incident began when the victim pulled into a gas station at the intersection to alert the other driver — later identified as 24-year-old Luke Davis of Covington, Indiana — about a taillight issue. Following that interaction, Davis allegedly began to follow the victim, prompting the victim to contact 911 due to Davis’s concerning behavior.

When officers stopped Davis’s vehicle, they observed a loaded firearm in plain view on the front passenger seat. A subsequent search of the vehicle revealed the presence of a controlled substance, police said.

Davis was arrested at the scene and transported to the Vermilion County Jail. He faces charges of Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon, Possession of a Controlled Substance, and Disorderly Conduct.

The Danville Police Department emphasized that all individuals are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
