URBANA, IL (Chambana Today) — Around midnight this morning, the Urbana Fire Department responded to a working fire at a six-unit apartment building located at 1508 Hunter Street. Engine 251 arrived on scene within four minutes to find heavy flames engulfing one of the apartment units.
Firefighters began suppression efforts on the rear side of the building where the fire was most intense. Fortunately, all occupants had safely evacuated prior to their arrival. Roughly 20 firefighters responded to the scene, swiftly extinguishing the blaze and completing thorough searches of the building to prevent fire extension and ensure resident safety. Utilities were also secured.
The fire was brought under control within 20 minutes. While no injuries were reported, five residents were displaced due to fire damage. The Urbana Fire Department’s Fire Investigation Team later ruled the fire accidental, though damage estimates are still pending.
